AREA: When Creativity Meets the Right Length

In a season buzzing with inclusivity talks, AREA shows what it really means to design for all bodies.

As New York Fashion Week approaches and the industry prepares to set the tone for another season, I want to pause on a brand that has long stepped beyond conventional aesthetics. AREA is not just about clothing. It’s about creativity, boldness, and speaking directly to the new culture of fashion.

What has always inspired me about AREA is their ability to merge artistry with wearability. A pair of jeans adorned with crystals or sculptural cut-outs stops being just a garment and becomes a work of art.

But there’s also a more personal note. At my height of 5’10 (178 cm), I constantly run into the issue of jeans being too short or losing their proportions. With AREA, this problem simply doesn’t exist — their pieces actually take tall women into account. And that matters: women of shorter height can always tailor a garment shorter, but we can’t make it longer. This is why I value AREA not only for their visual daring, but also for their respect toward real bodies and proportions beyond the runway ideal.

In the context of the upcoming New York Fashion Week, the conversation around body inclusivity and proportional design is hotter than ever. Many brands promise to consider different shapes and heights, but very few deliver consistently. AREA, however, shows us that attention to detail — even something as specific as jean length — isn’t a minor detail at all, but a powerful gesture of respect toward their audience.

This, to me, is AREA’s true identity: bold creativity + conscious practicality.

Stay tuned — I’ll be sharing my reflections on AREA’s new collection right after the show. I’m certain there will be plenty to discuss.
